A silent protest march was organized by expatriate Bangladeshis in Venice, Italy. Expats staged a silent march in the country to protest against Muslim Bangladeshi women wearing hijab in Marghera, Venice, and attempts to tear down the hijab. It demanded legal action against the women involved in the incident.
It is known that about 15 thousand expatriate Bangladeshis live in Italy’s Sagarkanya Khan Venice. More than 5,000 expatriates are living with their families. According to Muslim customs, women in Muslim countries wear hijab and travel.
A group of unruly women made nasty comments about a Muslim Bangladeshi woman’s hijab and tried to rip it off at Marghera in Venice last week. In that incident, all the Bangladeshi families living in Venice were terrified.
Legal action was taken soon after the incident and cases were registered against the women who assaulted them. In protest against this, a silent protest march was organized by the expatriate Bangladeshis of Venice.
The protest march started from Mestre station in Venice and ended at the Mestre coin market with the participation of about five hundred expatriate Bangladeshis.
Various social and political leaders of the local Bangladeshi community also protested. Along with that, some local top leaders of Italy also condemned this incident.
