District police paid tribute to the martyrs on the occasion of local Martyr’s Day in Moulvibazar.
On Tuesday (December 20) morning, Moulvibazar district police paid their respects to more than half a hundred freedom fighters who were killed in an unexpected mine explosion on this day in 1971 by laying flowers at Moulvibazar Municipal Shahid Minar.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hasan Mohammad Nasser Rikabder, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Sudarshan Kumar Roy, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Mohsin and various police officers were present during the tribute.
It is known that on this day in 1971, more than half a hundred freedom fighters were martyred in an unexpected mine explosion in the freedom fighters’ quarters set up in Moulvibazar Government High School. Later, the dismembered bodies of the freedom fighters were collected and buried at the southeast end of Moulvibazar Government High School grounds. Since then, every year the people of Moulvibazar have been celebrating the 20th of December as Martyr’s Day with due dignity locally.
