Fakhrul-Abbas denied bail, sent to jail

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas have been sent to jail in a case filed at Paltan police station in the capital.
After 5 pm on Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jaseem ordered them to be sent to jail.
Earlier, at around 4:30 pm, the detective police presented them in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jaseem and requested that the two leaders be detained in jail until the investigation of the explosive case is completed. The investigating officer of the case, Police Inspector Tariqul Islam.
After hearing both sides, the judge rejected the bail application of the two BNP leaders and ordered them to be sent to jail.
Court sources confirmed the matter.
BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan last Wednesday (December 7) afternoon. One person was shot and died. Many were injured. The police said that they found rice, water, cash and explosives in the BNP office.
During the operation, the police arrested many leaders and activists including Rizvi, Aman Ullah Aman, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Special Assistant to the Chairperson Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas from Nayapaltan. The police filed a case as a plaintiff in the Paltan Model Police Station, citing the names of 473 people in the incident. In the case, 150 to 2000 BNP leaders and activists have been named as defendants, including 473 names. However, Aman and Jewel were later released on bail.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and central leader Mirza Abbas were arrested by the police and brought to court in that case. For this, a large number of policemen were deployed in the court area.
Incidentally, last Wednesday (December 7) at around 3 pm around the rally at the central office in Nayapaltan on December 10, as the party’s leaders and activists gathered by blocking the road in front of the central office of the party, when the police tried to remove them, a massive clash broke out between the two sides. BNP leaders and activists started gathering in front of the Nayapaltan office from morning. At one stage, the gathering became large and blocked one side of the road. In this situation, when the police tried to remove them, the chase started between the two parties. At one stage of the clash, the police fired tearshells to control the situation.
One person named Maqbul Hossain was killed in the chase and clash between the two sides. Many BNP activists were injured.
On the day of the clash, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Motijheel Zone DC Hayatul Islam Khan told the media that the clash started when the venue of the rally was being discussed. BNP leaders started gathering in Paltan since morning. At one point the entire road was closed. We repeatedly requested them to move but they did not listen to us. At one point, when they tried to remove them, they attacked the police. Some of our members were injured.
After this clash today (December 9) BNP Vice Chairman Dr. AZM Zahid and Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal told reporters after coming out of the DB office that their departmental rally is being held at Golapbagh ground in the capital on Saturday.
