Chapainawabganj transport strike continues for 2nd day for 10-point demand

The transport strike in Chapainawabganj is going on for the 2nd day due to the 10-point demand. In Chapainawabganj, the indefinite transport strike has continued since Friday morning for the 2nd day to collect 10-point demands including the amendment of the Road Transport Act-2018.
No bus was plying from Chapainawabganj bus terminal or Dhaka coach stand to Rajshahi, Dhaka and other routes of the country. However, for urgent needs, passengers have been seen going to different destinations by autorickshaws, CNG, Misuk with higher fares.
Rafiqul Islam Tipu, senior joint convener of BNP in Chapainawabganj district, said that the government called for a transport strike by “workers-owners” to prevent a large gathering of people in the Rajshahi divisional convention on December 3. Still, most of the leaders and workers of BNP from different places of 5 upazilas of Chapainawabganj district have to go to Rajshahi assembly place by alternative vehicles. And the police conducted house-to-house searches to arrest many BNP leaders and workers last night. On the other hand, Mainul Islam, port manager of Sonamsjid Panama Port Link Ltd., said that although the transport strike continues; Import-export operations are active at Sonamsjid land port.
He also said that trucks loaded with Indian imported goods were entering the land port and Indian goods were seen being loaded on trucks from Bangladesh and going to different parts of the country. Trucks carrying onions, corn, fruits, stones and other goods did not face any obstacles on the road while leaving the port. Meanwhile, no untoward incident has been reported so far on the 2nd day of the indefinite transport strike.
