Cow theft rampant in Habiganj ahead of winter

Keeping ahead of winter, the district has seen a lot of cow theft. Farmers are staying awake at night in fear of thieves. But the band of thieves is adopting a new strategy. Now, instead of stealing at night, these cows and goats are being stolen from the hoards and fields with different vehicles. In the last 1 month, about half a hundred cows and goats have been stolen from the villages of different upazilas of the district by lights, microbuses, Noha and pickup vans, CNG. Last Wednesday morning, mob arrested 3 thieves including two cows while stealing from Ganeshpur Bazar of Paikpara Union of Chunarughat police station in a pickup van. At that time, the two thieves who were with them escaped. They were handed over to the police station along with the cow through a good medium.
The arrested are Abdul Azim (20) son of Abdul Hannan of Nizmagurunda village, Alamgir (22) son of Mannan Mia of Noabad village, Hiresh Mia (25) son of Maqsud Ali of the same village. A case has been filed in this incident.
The detainees were sent to court on Wednesday afternoon. Police station OC (Investigation) Golam Mastufa said that the police are conducting operations to nab the thieves and are on alert.
