Traditional Pinda Daan festival of Buddhist community Completed in Bandarban
Lutfur Rahman (Uzzal): The hundred year old Maha Pinda Daan festival of the Buddhist community has been completed in Bandarban.More than three hundred Buddhist monks From Bihar and Buddhist temples of different areas of Bandarban have participated in this.
On Tuesday (November 8) morning,the journey of monks started from the city’s Rajguru Buddhist Vihar and circumambulated Maddampara,Uzani Para area.During this time Buddhist men and women donate chibar according to religious customs.
At this time,Men and women dressed in different colors take a position in a row in the colorful pandal and donate various consumables and food in the hope of gaining Religious merit among the monks.
Minister for Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing (MP) participated in the pinda Daan festival and donated to the monks.
Basically the Buddhist community observes three months of “Barsha Bash” (restraint) followed by a solid chibar donation at temples.Later this Pindadan festival was organized in honor of Buddhist monks. Buddhist men and women donate Cash Money, sweetmeats,chibar and rice Food in the hope of auspiciousness.
Apart from Bangladesh,this festival is popular in neighboring countries such as Myanmar,India and Thailand.
