A court sentenced a lecher to life imprisonment for raping a young woman in Madhavpur. Along with that, a fine of 10,000 taka, in default of payment, another year of imprisonment was given. Judge SM Nasim Reza of Habiganj’s learned District and Sessions Judge Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal 3 gave this verdict on Tuesday.

Court clerk Md. Fazlu Mia said that Anindra Sarkar (22), son of Runi Chandra Sarkar of the same village, fell in love with the young daughter of Amulya Chandra Malakar of Shahjahanpur village in the upazila. He often teased the young lady. Anindra gets angry when the matter is known in the area. He plans to rape and harm the young woman. As a result of this, on October 1, 2010 around 7 pm, Atindra picked up the young woman and raped her. If the matter is known, he will officially marry her, wasting time. At one point the young woman became pregnant.
When Lompt’s family repeatedly approached him about this, they threatened him in various ways without marrying him. The matter was not resolved even after informing the chairman member. When the young woman’s father tried to file a case unsuccessfully, the then OC did not take the case. Nirupa filed a case in court. After a long testimony, the learned judge gave this verdict on the afternoon of November 1 as the charges against the accused were proved. At the time of the verdict, the accused was absconding. Peshkar also said that the plaintiff is satisfied with the verdict. A conviction warrant has been sent against the accused.
