The country’s economy is on the edge of the abyss due to government looting: Musharraf
Comilla Correspondent/
BNP standing committee member and former minister. Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain said, ‘People of the country do not want to see the Awami League government in power anymore. Therefore, a non-partisan neutral government should be established during the election. A beautiful election must be arranged. In the elections that the people will be able to vote with their own hands. Not through machines, not in EVMs, but with your own hands. Poverty is increasing due to rampant government corruption. The poverty rate has risen from 20 percent to 42 percent today. People have risen against this government today. No dictatorial government in the world has voluntarily given up power, so we will unify all like-minded parties and oust this government through a movement and establish a people’s government.
In the preparatory meeting organized on the occasion of BNP’s Comilla divisional mass meeting, Dr. Khandaker Musharraf said these things. At this time, he directed the leaders and activists to make the largest public gathering in memory a success at the Comilla Town Hall ground on November 26, ignoring all the obstacles. If strike is called in Comilla too, he urged the leaders and activists to come to the rally by alternative means.
Dr. Khandaker Musharraf said, “The economy of the country has gone to the edge of the abyss due to the looting of the government. The country’s reserve situation is very bad. The electricity situation in the country is very fragile. People are disorientated due to load shedding and rising commodity prices. Due to Awami Syndicate, the price of goods has gone beyond the purchasing power of common people. The people of the country do not get justice. The government has also axed the judicial system to stay in power. We will rally, this is also not freedom. The government is nervous and obstructing our assembly. The government is forcing the workers to strike. Rallies were held in Chittagong, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Khulna. When our rally is over, so is the transport strike. They are conducting a transport strike so that people cannot come to our rally. But people ignored all obstacles and made the rally successful.
Demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Khandaker Musharraf said, “The government has imprisoned our leader, the mother of democracy, the former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in a formal judgment.” He was campaigning for the liberation of democracy. Begum Khaleda Zia was imprisoned to hinder that movement. In our next rally, we demand that Begum Khaleda Zia should be released from prison. The verdict against Tariq Rahman, acting chairman of BNP, should be annulled and he should be allowed to come and move freely in the country.
In the meeting presided over by the party’s National Executive Committee Vice Chairman Barkat Ultah Bulu, Comilla South District BNP convener former Member of Parliament Amin-ur Rashid Yachin, Engineer Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, Anwarul Azim and Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan, Comilla Divisional Organizing Secretary of BNP Mostak Miah spoke among others. BNP leaders Abul Kalam, Aktaruzzaman, AFM Tarek Munshi, Advocate MA Mannan, Raihan Haroon, Udbatul Bari Abu, Haji Jasim Uddin, Yusuf Molla Tipu etc. At this time, top leaders of Comilla North, Comilla South, Comilla Mahanagar, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur district BNP and organizations were present.
