Fisherman goes missing while fishing in Ajmiriganj

A fisherman named Dhirendra Das (40) has gone missing while fishing in the Sajni Canal section of the Kodaliar River in Sadar Union of Ajmiriganj. Yesterday, Thursday (27th October) at two o’clock in the afternoon, he went missing in the river while lifting the net from the bottom of the river in the Sajnikhal part of the Kodalia river.
Dhirendra Das is the son of Nilchan Das of Alalpur of Ashtagram upazila of Kishoreganj.
According to police and local sources, six fishermen, including Dhirendra Das, cast their nets for fishing in the Sajnikhal section of the Kodalia river at two o’clock on Thursday. While lifting the net, he saw that the net was stuck at the bottom of the river. Dhirendra Das dived into the river to remove the net from the river bed. As Dhirendra Das did not come up from the bottom of the river even after a long time, his associates started searching the river. After the matter came to the attention of the locals, no trace of Dhirendra Das was found even though nets were thrown in the river three times till evening.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ajmiriganj Police Station Masuk Ali said that the body has not been recovered so far. The fire service has been informed. When they come, the rescue operation will start again.
