Teacher’s Day was celebrated in Sylhet’s Jaintapur Upazila with the motto ‘The transformation of the education system starts with the hands of teachers’. On Thursday (October 27) at 11 a.m., a colorful rally consisting of primary, secondary and college teachers left Jaintapur Upazila Parishad premises, circled the main main road of the Upazila Sadar and ended at the Upazila premises.

Later, Upazila Parishad Chairman Kamal Ahmad spoke as the chief guest at the discussion meeting chaired by Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Al Bashirul Islam and moderated by Upazila Academic Supervisor Azizul Haque Khokon. Besides, Jaintapur Taib Ali Technical College Principal Ruhini Ranjan Dey, Imran Ahmad Government Women’s College Assistant Professor Shahed Ahmad, Jaintapur Government High School Principal Shahna Zafrin Rezi, Baurbhag High School Principal Abdul Jalil, BMB High School Principal Abu Saeed Talukdar, Headmaster of Kamrangi Government Primary School. Farooq Azad Apart from that, head teachers and assistant teachers and teachers of various colleges, schools, madrasas and primary schools of the upazila were also present.

The status of teachers in our country is deteriorating. The teacher-students and the existing system are responsible for that. Incidents of students assaulting teachers are often heard. Party members and less educated people are in the management committee. Highly educated teachers do not have jobs if they do not keep their word. The pay structure and perquisites of teachers are very less than any other cadre. Teachers are struggling to run their families. Students these days are turning to devices and technology rather than studying with notebooks and pens. Due to the free flow of information and the availability of digital devices, students are going astray into various misdeeds. Teachers have to play the main role to overcome this situation. At no time did the teachers have money. So an ideal teacher has never stopped imparting knowledge and will not stop in the future either. Let this be the teacher’s oath on Teacher’s Day.
