Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, ‘If they want a change of power, BNP will have to participate in the next election. For Awami League, safe exit means election. If you want a change of power, come to the election. We are ready, come to vote. If the people don’t vote, we will have a safe exit.
He said this in response to the questions of journalists after signing the contract with the consulting firm to supervise the construction of Metrorail-1 (MRT Line-1) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Sunday.
“Awami League will not find a way to escape” – In response to the statement of BNP leaders, the general secretary of Awami League said, “We have never escaped.” Their acting chairman is on the run.
Expressing confidence in the people, Obaidul Quader said, “Fakhrul Saheb should find a safe exit (safe way) from the way they came down with sticks, giving the impression of arson.”
He said, “If there are a few thousand people in the BNP rally, it is said to be lakhs.” Although Chittagong is close to 100,000, Mymensingh and Khulna have not so many people. BNP is worried after seeing a slight wave in the dead Ganga. He invited the BNP leaders to a district assembly of Awami League to see what the public gathering is.
After 13 years of drought, Obaidul Quader commented that the movement of BNP has come to a dead end. For 13 years the tide has not come to the Ganga, now it has seen the tide. Seeing some wave, they think it is the wave of lakhs of people.’
“Don’t forget your past,” he said in reference to the obstacles in BNP’s program. What has happened to us after being beaten! We could not hold the meeting on February 11 on the footpath in front of the Awami League office. What is the barrier? No leader of BNP has been victim till date.
He also said, “Mohammed Nasim is not here today. How many times has he been beaten on the street? Matia Chowdhury was beaten. Abdus Samad Azad was not spared in a very ordinary gathering. BNP now talks about obstacles.
Obaidul Quader said, “They are now coming to the streets. The Jatiya Party is saying tomorrow that they will not be allowed to come down on the streets. Many of you journalists know whether they did. What is the obstacle, I could not stay in Obaidul Quader’s house even for five days in five years during the BNP period. Fakhrul Sahebra (Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir) is at home. Everyone is under AC in the house.
