14-day remand application against 24 student rights activists

Shahbag police station has applied for 14-day remand of 24 people including Aktar Hossain, President of Dhaka University Branch Student Rights Parishad, in the case of beating and attempted murder in Shahbag police station. On Saturday (October 15), Khademul Islam, the lawyer for the accused, gave this information.
He said that on October 13, the investigation officers of the two cases against the accused, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ariful Alam Apu and Golam Hossain of Shahbag police station, applied for seven days and 14 days remand each in separate applications.
The remand hearing will be held tomorrow Sunday (October 16) in the presence of the accused in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.
Earlier, on October 11, the court rejected the bail application of 24 student rights activists.
The accused are – Dhaka University Branch Student Rights Council President Aktar Hossain, General Secretary Akram Hossain, Md. Saddam Hossain, Md. Taslim Hossain Abhi, Abdul Quader, Md. Tariqul Islam, Mamunur Rashid, Nazmul Hasan, Rakib, Ariful Islam, Asif Mahmud, Tawhidul Islam Tuhin, HM Rubel Hossain, Yusuf Hossain, Mizan Uddin, Belal Hossain, Omar Farooq Jihad, Abu Kauchar, Zahid Ahsan, Moazzem Hossain Roni, Sanaullah, Shah Waliullah, Md. Rakib, Sajjad Hossain Parvez.
On October 7, the Shahbag Police Station arrested the 24 activists of Student Rights Council from Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After that two central leaders of the party Nazim Uddin and Aminur Rahman filed two cases in Shahbag police station accusing them of assault on BCL leaders and activists.
The next day on October 8, the former VP of Daksu Nurul Haque Noor came to the court to demand the release of the leaders and activists who appeared in court. He also said that if they are not released, they will be voluntarily imprisoned.
