Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that the constitution and the electoral system do not work according to the whims of individuals, the electoral system has been determined by following the methods of various democratic countries.
He said this while protesting the ‘misleading and politically motivated statements’ of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir published in the media in a statement on Saturday.
Obaidul Quader said that Bangladesh’s autocrat Ziaur Rahman and Ershad amended the constitution to give constitutional legitimacy to the power they seized for their own interests.
Pointing out that all those amendments of the constitution are being declared illegal by the country’s high court, he said in his statement that there is no chance to go to that place now.
In the statement, Obaidul Quader said that those who are now giving anti-constitutional statements want to see an undemocratic and unelected government system.
The general secretary of Awami League also said that because they want to see this unelected and undemocratic government, BNP leaders are giving their unconstitutional, undemocratic and illegal statements about the electoral system and the constitution. And they are doing the wrong thing to mislead the people.
Obaidul Quader said that the Awami League under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always in favor of an inclusive fair election and expects a competitive election system.
Pointing out that Sheikh Hasina has always welcomed the participation of all parties in the elections, Obaidul Quader said, Awami League never wants to score goals in an empty field. Awami League wants all the political parties of the country to participate in the elections and check their popularity. At the same time, develop the mentality of accepting the verdict of the vote.
He also said that the mentality of questioning the electoral system should be avoided if the verdict of the vote is not in favor.
BNP does not participate in elections for fear of losing, and even if it does, it participates with the aim of questioning the electoral system, the general secretary of Awami League said.
