24 people including the President of Student Rights Council are in jail

24 people, including president of Dhaka University Student Rights Council, Aktar Hossain, have been sent to jail in the case of beating and attempted murder at Shahbag police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam gave this order after the hearing on Saturday (October 8).

The other accused who went to jail are – Akram Hossain, General Secretary of Dhaka University Branch Student Rights Council, Md. Saddam Hossain, Md. Taslim Hossain Abhi, Abdul Quader, Md. Tariqul Islam, Mamunur Rashid, Nazmul Hasan, Rakib, Ariful Islam, Asif Mahmud, Tawhidul Islam Tuhin, HM Rubel Hossain, Yusuf Hossain, Mizan Uddin, Belal Hossain, Omar Farooq Jihad, Abu Kauchar, Zahid Ahsan, Moazzem Hossain Roni, Sanaullah, Shah Waliullah, Md. Rakib, Sajjad Hossain Parvez.

The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ariful Haque Tapu of Shahbagh Police Station requested to present the accused in the court and keep them in jail. On behalf of the accused, their lawyers applied for bail. The court sent the accused to jail and fixed the date of bail hearing on October 11. Sub-Inspector Nizam Uddin Fakir, officer of General Registration Branch of Shahbag Police Station, informed this information.

It is to be noted that on Friday, 24 activists including Akram Hossain, former social service secretary of Daksu, president of Dhaka University branch of Student Rights Parishad, Akram Hossain, were arrested by Shahbag police station. Chhatra League leaders and activists filed two cases against them in Shahbag police station.
