Amirul Kabir Suzan, Mithapukur (Rangpur): While taking pictures of the streets full of potholes, a middle-aged uncle came and said that he was taking pictures. Now I understand that our road will be paved. MP, Member-Chairman they do not come except during voting time. Are you a public servant father? Take pictures. Everyone comes and takes pictures but not a single brick falls on our road.

This is how Shamsuzzaman, a resident of Panchgharia vilage of Khoragach Union No. 1 of Mithapukur Upazila of Rangpur, told about his lack of success. Like him, thousands of people of 17 unions of the upazila are suffering. In this upazila, several main main roads have been renovated, but the rural roads are in poor condition. As a result, the people of the remote villages are deprived of the modern facilities of the government.

On the surface, an unpaved road can be seen northwards from Chowkbazar on the way to Padaganj Bazar through Sinhdwar of HN Ashikur Rahman Street in Khoragach Union. The road crosses Paikapara village via Nayapara, passing through Pachgharia village to connect with Milbazar of Rangpur Kotwali police station. About 4 km of this road is in poor condition. This potholed road turns into a death trap during monsoons. It is red soil and no vehicles can move on it as it is a dirt road. Residents of these three villages have been demanding the local public representatives for ages to pave the road, but to no avail. On the contrary public suffering has become more extreme. Locals demand that the road be renovated and made suitable for movement.

Abdul Hakim, a resident of the local village, said that Ashiqur Rahman MP Sir had walked through this road and participated in a meeting during Haribhanga Mango. Seeing the bad condition of this road, he promised to pave the road, but the road was not renovated. We, the people of the village work and eat and do not get the opportunity to go to the MP sir. Telling the chairman is of no use.

Housewife Mahmuda Begum said, It is very difficult for boys and girls to travel to school and college. There have even been incidents of marriages breaking up because of roads.

Another resident of the village, Anishul Haque, said that food shortages are now seen in various places on the road. But when it rains, the knees become wet. Farmers here cannot market their produce during the monsoon season. People of three villages are lagging behind in improving their standard of living because of one road. It is not possible to take someone to a clinic or hospital on time if someone is sick or someone has labor pains.

Asaduzzaman Asad, Chairman of Khoragach Union Parishad, said that it is necessary to repair the roads of the village. But how can we do the road work if we don’t get the government allocation. I got only 75 votes in that center but they didn’t vote for me but 1 lakh was allotted to the member of that ward. Members will do developmental work if they get money. An application will be made to the authority for renovating the road.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fatematuz Zohara said, no one has filed any complaint in this regard. Actions will be taken to repair the road after inquiry.
