The religious festival Durga Puja ends today with the sacrifice of idols

Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, ends today (Wednesday) with the dedication of the idol of Goddess Durga.
Today, traditional religious people of the country bid farewell to Goddess Durga by playing dhaka music, khol-kartal and singing.
Durga Puja started on October 1 through Mahasashti. Today, the festival ends with the dedication of idols on Dasami Thithi.
According to Hindu scriptures, Goddess Durga came from Kailash to her father’s house, Mortyaloka, riding a gaj (elephant) for the good of the world. After the 5-day puja ceremony, she will go back to her husband’s house in Kailash by boat.
Durga Puja will be celebrated in 32 thousand 168 pavilions across the country this year. Last year the number of pavilions was 32 thousand 118. The number of pujas in Dhaka metropolis is 241, which is 6 more than last year.
On the occasion of Durga Puja, members of police, Ansar, BGB, RAB and other law and order forces are performing their duties to protect the security of every pujamandap across the country including the capital. A central control room has been opened at the Dhakeswari temple fair premises under the initiative of the Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee.
