An influential person of the village has been accused of illegally occupying a part of the water flowing stream in Srimangal of Moulvibazar and constructing a structure by obstructing the flow of water. As a result of that person filling up a part of the river and building a house, causing disturbance to the free flow of water, the road for the locals was partially broken due to the water blocking the road, and about 5,000 people in the area are suffering. In this incident, the locals held a protest meeting and human chain demanding the eviction of the illegal construction and vacating the plot.

The villagers of Ichabpur and Nawagaon of the upazila made a human chain on the banks of the Jagchara river in the upazila on Thursday afternoon.

Locals said that the influential Ayub Ali Khan illegally occupied the plot and constructed the structure. As a result, there is no alternative system to drain the water from the river, and the road along the river has become impassable for the residents. The speakers in the human chain said that the influential Alhaj Maulana Mohammad Ayub Ali Khan of the area occupied the government plot and built the building on it. Due to the obstruction of water drainage, the roads of Ichabpur and Nawagaon villages are constantly collapsing. No sick patients and fire service emergency vehicles can enter the areas. If this road is not repaired quickly, the movement of 2 thousand families of the area will be stopped.

Accused Alhaj Maulana Mohammad Ayub Ali Khan said, Khas land and plot can be in my possession. If in my possession I will release it. But those still in possession must be evicted.

U’P member of Upazila Sadar Union Md. Shahjahan said, when the local people told me to come and see the road, I immediately informed the sub-chairman, then the union discussed both sides. Later we submitted a written complaint to the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Lands) for vacating the plots.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sandhip Talukder said that the areas in the upazila where the graffiti are illegally occupied. We have started drawing those rhymes. The member has applied in writing. We have noted that we will conduct an eviction campaign very quickly to spread the chaos.
