Rally and discussion meeting at Kumarkhali on World Rabies Day
Zaker ALi Shuva: On the occasion of World Rabies Day-2022, a rally was held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 28 at the initiative of Upazila Health Complex, Kumarkhali, Kushtia and a discussion meeting was held in the conference room after the rally.
The theme of the day is ‘Jalatanka: No More Dead, Harmony with All’.
Conducted by Medical Officer Dr. Abdullah Al-Mamun Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Akul Uddin participated in the World Rabies Day discussion among others. Kumarkhali police station officer in-charge (OC) Inspector Md. Kamruzzaman Talukder, Journalist KM R Shaheen, Upazila Animal Resources Extension Officer Dr. Md. Roman Sheikh, Dr. Shamima Akter, Dr. Kazi Ruhul Alam, Dr Mehrin Tabassum, Dr Rifat Alfaz Hemel, Dr. Md. Makleshur Rahman, Journalist Zaker Ali Shuva, Scientist Md Abdour Rashid, Pharmacist Md. Monirul Islam, Senior Staff Nurse Mst: Rikta Khatun, Mst: Maryam Khatun, Mst: Lupa Khatun, Mst: Tashlima Akhtar, Shamshunnahar, Various level employees including Anwar Hossain etc.
Before the discussion meeting, a rally was taken out in the upazila health complex under the leadership of Dr. Md. Akul Uddin.
In the president’s speech, Dr. Md. Akul Uddin said that the main carrier of the deadly disease rabies is dogs. Besides, this disease can also be caused by the scratch-bites of cats, beggars and foxes. Rabies is 100% dangerous and 100% preventable. Prevention of rabies can be ensured in almost 100% of cases by giving timely antirabies vaccination according to the advice of the doctor after the victim. Rabies is now not a matter of fear as before, but it is possible to avoid its infection only if people are aware.
Medical officer Dr. Abdullah Al-Mamun said, after being attacked by a dog or suspected rabies animal, if the wounds caused by the patient’s body are washed very quickly with alkaline soap and running water for 15 minutes, the shed rabies virus is removed or inactivated. By applying this technology, it can be possible to prevent this terrible disease in about 70 percent of cases.
