Dulal Miah, Sunamganj: A discussion session on the overall situation of Sunamganj district after Haor submergence and flood, titled ‘Sustainable Haor Development Ideas’, was held at Shahid Jagatjyoti Public Library auditorium on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM under the initiative of Haor Bachao Andolan Sunamganj District Committee.

Haor Bachao Andolan Sunamganj district committee president Yakub Bakht Bahlul presided over and conducted by general secretary Md. Obaidul Haque Milon spoke as the chief guest – Haor Bachao Andolan central committee vice president Sukhendu Sen, special guest speech was given by Bijan Sen Roy, general secretary of the central committee, joint-  Editor Nirmal Bhatracharya, Member Ramendra Kumar De Mintu, Shalla Upazila Committee President and Central Committee Member Professor Tarun Kanti Das, Haor Bachao Andolan Sunamganj District Committee Executive President Oliur Rahman Chowdhury Bakul.

Speakers in the meeting said, “Estimating the dam construction work should be completed within the stipulated time by going to the ground with the farmers. Confirming the formation of the PIC through public hearings including the local farmers, the list of PIC’s should be made public and the work should be started and completed within the stipulated time.  All necessary rivers, canals and bills should be properly dug.

Unconditional loans should be given to the affected farmers in the coming Boro season. Necessary agricultural materials including fertilizers and seeds should be provided by the government. Projects should be taken up permanently to reduce the death rate due to lightning in Haor area.  Those involved in irregularities and corruption in the construction of dams should be brought to justice. More importance should be given to the education of the children of Haor area. Strongly demanded the government to take all necessary steps to bring the people of Haor area to the core of the economy.”
