Dulal Mia, Sunamganj: There is a danger that the central shrine of Shaheed Minar in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district will collapse at any moment. Therefore, local residents and cultural activists have demanded quick renovation or construction of a new Shaheed Minar.
It is known that in memory of the martyrs, Shaheed Minar was built at the pond of Zila Parishad on Dak Banglo Road in Upazila Sadar Union. 2013 Sunamganj Zilla Parishad Administrator Barrister M. Enamul Kabir Imon demolished the old Shaheed Minar and built a new Shaheed Minar at a cost of 13 lakh taka. But recently the main altar behind the Shaheed Minar has collapsed.
Jewel Mia, a resident of Jagannathpur area, said, “The only central Shaheed Minar of Jagannathpur upazila has collapsed in the rear. Any main pillar may break and fall into the pond. I want the government’s intervention.”
Paritosh Chakraborty, principal of Jagannathpur Upazila Shilpakala Academy’s music school, said that the central Shaheed Minar of Jagannathpur has collapsed on a large scale. We cultural workers have been demanding the construction of a new Shaheed Minar in place of the old Shaheed Minar at the Upazila Sadar for a long time. Immediate action should be taken in this regard.
Jagannathpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sajedul Islam told the media, “The central Shaheed Minar of Jagannathpur is at risk due to collapse. Instead of renovating it, steps will be taken to build a new Shaheed Minar.”
