Police have arrested Pritam Das, a member of the National Coordinating Committee of the State Reform Movement, in a Digital Security Act case for posting insulting posts about Islam on social media Facebook in Moulvibazar’s Srimangal.
Srimangal Thana Police arrested Pritam Das from a house on Bhanugach Road in the municipal area of Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar on Friday (September 9) around 7 pm.
According to the police, Pritam Das has been posting and sharing offensive and religious incitement from his personal ID at various times on social media. Due to this, the communal harmony in the area is damaged and religious tension is also created. A religiously provocative offensive post by him went viral on social media, creating tension among people in the area. Locals held a protest rally at Srimangal against Pritam Das as Dharmi also hurt their sentiments. Later, Mahbub Alam Bhuiyan filed a case under the Digital Security Act at Srimangal police station on September 4. Pritam Das was on the run after this incident. Srimangal Thana police managed to arrest him while he was absconding from a house on Bhanugach Road in the city.
The arrested Pritam Das is a member of the Central Executive Committee of the State Reform Movement. Pritam Das took to social media from his Facebook ID to taunt Islam’s Jumma prayers, worshippers, adhans and imams.
