Students blocked the Sylhet-Dhaka highway in protest against the filing of a case against 3 students of class 10 of Goalabazar Adarsh High School of Osmaninagar Upazila of Sylhet.

On Sunday (September 4) around 4 pm, the highway was blocked in Goalabazar for an hour after the school holiday. As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the highway. Meanwhile, the students displayed various slogans and shoes aimed at Sylhet-2 Constituency Member of Parliament Mokabbir Khan. After receiving the news, the police and Awami League leaders went to the spot and promised a sound solution to the matter within 24 hours, the students called off the blockade.

It has been reported that a fight took place between Iman Ahmed Pappu son of Gauch Mia of Brahmin village, Abu Zayed son of Angur Mia and Arif Ahmed son of Saleh Ahmad of Karansi Road area with Abdul Aziz son of Ashiq Mia of East Sirajnagar village. The incident took place in Goalabazar on August 28 around 5 pm due to previous enmity. In this incident, Abdul Aziz filed a case against 20 to 25 other anonymous accused including the names of Pappu, Zayed and Arif on August 31 at the Osmaninagar police station. Before filing the complaint, Aziz threatened that the case would be filed through MP Mokabbir Khan Abdul Aziz’s relative and MP. On such news, the students started protesting by blocking the highway. The general public also stood in solidarity with the students.

Several students in the movement said – Abdul Aziz is a relative of Sylhet 2 Constituency Member of Parliament Mokabbir Khan. Mokabbir Khan recorded the case with the OC of the police station to show his power. MP Mokabbir Khan has ordered to file a case against the students of class 10 for abuse of power in the administration by committing irregularities and corruption. The students demanded the withdrawal of this case. When Abdul Aziz, the plaintiff in the case, was contacted, he did not agree with any comment.

Kibria Mia, a member of the school management committee, said that the students went there after knowing about the road blockade. Students suspended the movement due to the intervention of Upazila Awami League and administration. Condemn the fact that the current MP Mokabbir Khan has used the administration to file cases against the students.

Upazila Awami League joint general secretary Jabed Ahmad Ambia said – the case can be against anyone. Sylhet-2 Constituency MP Mokabbir Khan is swallowing the government’s development allocation by threatening to speak in Parliament against the officials and employees if the administration officials do not act as per the words of Sylhet-2 Constituency MP Mokabbir Khan. The students said that the administration was forced to record the case because of him. If Mokabbir Khan uses the administration to harass Komalmati students with assault cases, the result will not be good. MPK has not done any development for the people so far. Residents of two upazilas are also stigmatized by making incompetent people as MPs. He is trying to turn irregularities into rules by creating a robbery syndicate in the area with corrupt people.

General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Afzalur Rahman Chowdhury Nazlu said – We came here after getting the news that the students started a movement against MP Mokabbir Khan. I believe the police will investigate the matter properly. We talked to the students. The police administration will not harass them.

Officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar police station SM Main Uddin said – ‘One of the accused in the case is an SSC candidate. The police have said that he will be able to pass his test. The incident will be further investigated. The students have suspended the movement on our words. Traffic is normal.
