Banned sale of polythene does not stop in Madhavpur, there is no one to see it

The use of banned polythene is increasing in various markets including the municipality of Madhavpur upazila of Habiganj. Because polythene is non-biodegradable, people use polythene and throw it away. As a result, the garbage of the market is mixed with these polythenes, on one hand polluting the environment, on the other hand, during the monsoon season, these polythene bags get stuck in the drains of the area and in the mouth of the sewerage pipes, causing waterlogging. As a result, when there is a little rain, various bazaars are sinking. As a result of polythene bags being left in the canals and drains, many people are dying prematurely with various diseases. Public health is under threat. Polythene bags mix with the soil and reduce the soil’s fertility leading to loss of cropland.
A trader in Madhavpur market, who did not want to be named, said that most buyers do not bring bags when they come to the market. As the price of yarn or cotton bags is high, buyers are forced to buy polythene bags.
Madhavpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Moinul Islam Moin said that the public should be more aware of the use of polythene. We will conduct miking in the area to increase awareness and monitor various markets and conduct mobile courts.
