According to the victim’s family sources, Sohag Mia (27), son of Phul Mia of Tajpur village of Khagawra Union of Baniachong upazila, was married to the daughter of deceased Abdul Haque (25) of the same village a few years ago. After marriage, a daughter was born in their married life. Since then he used to torture his wife for various reasons including dowry. The victim’s family lodged a complaint with Baniachong police station. A few months ago, after being fed up with his torture, the victim gave him a divorce. Since then he lived in Srimangal.

Last Wednesday morning he came home to see his sick mother. After noon the bus stand of Habiganj city came to go to Srimangal. At that time, her ex-husband Sohag took her away with a team. Later someone from Chunarughat took Arif home. There, Sohag, Arif and Shafiqnur raped her by turns throughout the night. At some point in the morning, Sohag left her in the new bridge area and ran away. Later the woman informed her relatives and they came and rescued her and admitted her to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
