That Jhumon Das was arrested again under the Digital Security Act
Sunamganj Representative/
Jhumon Das, who was jailed in a police case under the Digital Security Act in connection with ‘communal riots’ in Sunamganj’s Shalla over a post on Facebook, has been arrested again.
Sunamganj is again in a state of tension around ‘a post about mosque-temple’ on the Facebook account of Jhumon Das.
After that post, the police took Jhumon to the police station for questioning from his house in Noagaon village of Shalla upazila on Tuesday around 11 o’clock.
Sunamganj District Police Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Suman Mia confirmed this information to the media.
The Additional Superintendent of Police of the District Police said that Jhuman Das Prakash Apan (26), son of Gopendra Das of Noagaon village in Habibpur Union of Shalla, posted a ‘provocative’ post on his ‘Jhuman Das Apan’ Facebook ID at around 3 pm on August 28. After that post, there was anger and tension among people in the area.
The Additional Superintendent of Police said that in view of this, when Jhumon Das was brought to the police station for questioning on Tuesday afternoon, he admitted that he had posted the post. After that, a case was filed against him in Shalla Police Station under the Digital Security Act and Jhumon was arrested.
Confirming the same information, the reason for bringing Jhumon to the police station was told by the OC of Shalla police station. Aminul Islam.
The OC said he was arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Sunamganj Superintendent of Police. Ehsan Shah said that a few days ago, Jhumon posted another post on Facebook about temples and mosques. Jhumon was brought to the police station for questioning and when he confirmed the post, he was arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
He also said that additional police have been deployed at Noagaon in Shalla to avoid any untoward incident. Police from Dirai and Shalla police stations are patrolling the village.
It is to be noted that on March 15, 2021, the then Amir Junayed Babunagari and Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque gave a speech at the ‘Shane Risalat’ rally of Hefazat in Dirai, Sunamganj. The next day on March 16, Jhumon Das, a youth from Noagaon in Shalla, posted a ‘provocative’ status on Facebook criticizing Mamunul Haque.
Excited by this incident and led by a local UP member, the local supporters of Hefajat Islam attacked and vandalized hundreds of Hindu houses in Hindu-dominated Noagaon on March 17. In addition to the Digital Security Act case against Jhumon on the grounds of provocative status, three separate cases were filed in connection with attacks on houses of the Hindu community in Noagaon.
Several people including Jhumon Das were arrested. Moreover, the police and local residents filed a case against 1500 people who were in custody. After about six months, Jhumon was released on bail from the High Court on September 27 last year.
At that time, the police filed a case under the Digital Security Act and sent Jhumon to jail. Jhumon was later released on bail.
