Handicapped child gets Rs 1 lakh award from Prime Minister

Speech-impaired child Manik Mia Talukda of Sunamganj received a prize of one lakh taka from the Prime Minister for drawing his picture. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Eid-ul-Azha greeting card features the painting of that manik. For this, Manik Miah is being given one lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund.
Manik Mia Talukdar (11) is the son of deceased Kacha Mia Talukdar of Karigaon village of Norai union of Chatak upazila of Sunamganj district.
Recently, Manik’s family was informed about this honor and award in a letter signed by Afroza bint Mansoor Ghazi Lipi, Assignment Officer of the Prime Minister’s Office. Manik Mia’s mother, relatives and local residents are happy with his success. Teachers claim that he has the potential to become a world-class artist if he gets proper training and proper guidance.
Rehena Begum, the mother of Manik Mia, a resident of Karigaon village in the upazila, told CNBangladesh on Monday that her son’s picture was published in the Prime Minister’s greeting card. Of this, the prize of Rs 1 lakh doubled his happiness.
