A farmer named Saiful Islam (52) died in a neighbor’s Elopathari Kilghushi in Naudhar village of Paikurati union of Sunamganj’s Dharmapasha upazila after fishing in a pond.
The incident took place in front of Naudhar village around 7:30 am on Wednesday (August 24). The deceased Saiful is the son of deceased Sujan Ali of Naudhar village of the same union.
According to Dharmapasha Police and local sources, there is a pond and land owned by Saiful Islam next to his house. A few days ago, his neighbor Kashem used that pond and land for fishing. Saiful’s son Zarikul asked his neighbor Kashem to pick up the ash, but he did not pick it up. In the morning, when Zarikul started screaming after seeing the leaves in the pond, Kashem came running and joined the argument.
On hearing the news, Saiful came there and took Zarikul home. Later, when Saiful’s younger brother Swapan wanted to go to the market in front of Kashem’s house, Kashem’s people blocked Swapan’s path. Later, when Saiful appeared there, Kashem, Helal and Dulal’s wife started punching him. Saiful fell on the ground. Later he was rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Dharmapasha police station OC Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said, “No one has filed a written complaint in this regard.” The body has been sent to Sunamganj Modern Sadar Hospital for autopsy. After receiving the post-mortem report, the root cause of the farmer’s death will be known.
