17 BGB destroys drugs worth Tk 319.4 million in Satkhira

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nildumur Battalion (17 BGB) has destroyed various types of drugs worth about Tk 319.4 million seized in Satkhira.
The drugs were formally destroyed at the ‘Drugs Destruction Ceremony-2026’ organized at the Nildumur Battalion Headquarters on Tuesday (July 28) at 11 am.
The chief guest at the ceremony was Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan, PBGM, BPM (Service), BGOM, PSC, Region Commander of BGB’s South-West Region.
The BGB said that from September 7, 2023 to July 11, 2026, 41 people were arrested and various smuggled goods worth Tk 51 crore 85 lakh 79 thousand 797 550 were seized in various operations conducted in the Shyamnagar, Debhata and Kaliganj border areas of Satkhira. Of this, Tk 31 crore 94 lakh 34 thousand 350 were various types of narcotics. The destroyed narcotics included 406 bottles of various types of liquor, 15 thousand 78 bottles of phensidyl and similar drugs, 18 thousand 654 pieces of yaba, 75 thousand 766 packets of Indian leaf bidis, 3.81 kg of marijuana, 21 lakh 76 thousand 257 pieces of various types of illegal drugs, 1 thousand 470 leaves of happiness, 15 thousand 746 pieces of narcotic tablets, 1 kg of heroin, 8 bottles (100 ml) of LSD, 6 bottles (50 ml) of LSD and 2.400 kg of crystal meth (ice).
At the beginning of the program, Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Abu Sahl Abdullah, PSC, Commander of the Nildumur Battalion, delivered a welcome speech.
Chief guest Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan said that the BGB is working hard to build a drug-free country. BGB members are playing an important role in preventing drug smuggling by performing their duties day and night at the border. He said that drugs are a multidimensional social problem. In order to deal with this problem, the participation of people from all walks of life along with law enforcement agencies is essential. He called on everyone to come forward to increase public awareness against drugs and build social resistance.
The sector commander of Khulna sector, Satkhira Superintendent of Police, representatives of the district administration, RAB-6, representatives of the Narcotics Control Department, Customs, Forest Department, Fire Service, Coast Guard and journalists from print and electronic media were present at the program.
