The Forest Department has seized a boat carrying 145 kilograms of deer meat in Koyra of Khulna while it was allegedly being smuggled out of the Sundarbans. The poachers fled into the forest after noticing the presence of Forest Department officials. Later, the seized meat was buried and destroyed following a court order.
According to the Forest Department, a patrol team was conducting a routine operation to protect wildlife in the Sundarbans at around 8:00 pm on Saturday (September 5). When the team reached the Hodda area, they spotted a suspicious boat. Sensing the presence of the Forest Department personnel, the poachers jumped from the boat and fled into the Sundarbans.
The patrol team later searched the boat and recovered 145 kilograms of deer meat, along with a deer head and legs. The seized meat was taken to the Koyra Upazila court premises at around 4:00 pm on Sunday (September 6). Following the legal procedure, the meat was buried and destroyed under the court’s direction.
Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Hodda Patrol Camp, said an investigation is underway to identify the poachers who fled the scene. Preparations are also underway to file a case against them under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
