Bangladesh has progressed four steps in human development index

Bangladesh has advanced four steps in the Human Development Index of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The figure emerged in the UNDP’s Human Development Report 2021-22 on Thursday (September 8).

Earlier in the 2020 Human Development Report, Bangladesh was ranked 133 out of 189 countries in the world. Bangladesh ranks 129 in this year’s index.

According to the report of UNDP, in 2019, Bangladesh was ranked 135th out of 185 countries in the world. In 2018, Bangladesh ranked 136th in this index, 3 steps ahead of the previous year. According to this year’s report, the human development situation in Bangladesh is moderate.

According to the report, Nepal is 143rd, Bhutan 127th, Maldives 90th and Afghanistan 180th among South Asian countries.

The Human Development Index is created by UNDP by analyzing a country’s public health, education and income data. Bangladesh has an average value of 0.661 on the published index, which is slightly lower than India (0.663). Where the average life expectancy of Bangladesh is shown as 72.4 years. And the average life expectancy of India is 67.2 years and Pakistan is 66.1 years. Bangladesh is higher than India-Pakistan in education index.

On the other hand, in the report, Bangladesh is in a better position than the two neighboring countries India and Pakistan in the index of development of equality between women and men in the society. Bangladesh ranks 129th in this index. Where India and Pakistan are at 131st and 161st position respectively.
