There is no democracy, human rights, freedom of speech in the country now: Fakhrul
Dhaka/
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that the US report has presented correct information about Bangladesh’s democracy and human rights. He said, ‘The whole country is ashamed of the report that the United States has given on human rights. There is no democracy, human rights, freedom of speech in the country now.
He said, ‘After the publication of the report, Awami League leaders are speaking like themselves. The United States itself is leading the world in institutionalizing democracy.
He said these things at the commemoration meeting on the occasion of the 16th death anniversary of former BNP General Secretary late KM Obaidur Rahman at Engineers Institute in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said, since Awami League came to power, it has destroyed all democratic institutions by establishing Bakshal. Since 1971, Awami League believes in single power and single leadership. Awami League has consciously destroyed the country’s democracy.
He said, ‘The whole country has turned into a prison today. Everyone must unite to bring down the government through mass uprising. Awami League likes to belittle everyone. Awami League does not know how to respect anyone. Tajuddin Ahmed, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan does not even mention Bhasani’s name.
Commenting that Awami League is implementing the old dream of establishing one-party rule, BNP Secretary General said, “Awami League is consciously removing democracy from Bangladesh and establishing fascism, authoritarianism, and one-party rule.”
He said, “In order to maintain a democratic state structure, this government should be ousted through a mass coup with all the political parties.”
In the president’s speech, BNP Standing Committee member Khandkar Mosharf Hossain said, ‘People who are contributing to the construction of Bangladesh are not remembered. The government is trying to systematically forget their names. The current Awami League government wants to establish only one person because of their inferiority.
Referring to the former secretary general of BNP, KM Obaidur Rahman, he said, ‘What we are talking about today is Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, democracy, justice policy, establishing equality as much as possible by eliminating economic disparities, and establishing an independent judicial system was the dream of KM Obaidur Rahman. That dream has been shattered today. A country without democracy cannot have human rights. It is internationally recognized that the country does not have human rights. In a country where the government is not elected by the people, the government is not accountable to the people.
He said, “Only a few people of the country are looting the wealth of the country and smuggling it abroad. In the name of mega project, mega corruption, bank robbery, reserve plot has completely destroyed the economy of Bangladesh.
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘Awami League has created politics to continuously seize power by excluding the people. They have seized power by using the constitution. Talking about the constitution leaving the people out does not suit the face of Awami League. They are enjoying power by destroying the election system and violating the constitution.
He said, “Fascist government has no word for people, there is an attempt to establish the politics of misogyny.” And that is why they have seized power by keeping the people out for the sake of the constitution. There is no opportunity for discussion, the decision will be taken by occupying the road. People will not leave the streets until the fascist government leaves.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal JSD president Asam Abdur Rab said, “Now is the time for the youth to fight.” Chhatra League leaders are now leaders of cow thieves. Awami League does not believe in voting. Power will lie on the ground but Awami League will not be allowed to remain. This fight is the fight of 18 crore people of Bangladesh.
Pointing out that not parliamentary democracy, parliamentary dictatorship is going on, he said, “power will remain, Awami League will not be allowed to remain in power.” The departure of this government will be through mass uprising, mass movement.
