BGB Sector Commander Ramu Colonel Md Mehdi Hoshain Kabir has announced that the godfathers of mountain Naikhongchhari border smuggling will also be brought under the law. He announced this at a public awareness meeting organized by BGB on Wednesday. He also said, ‘There has been an increase in cattle smuggling at the border. People from different walks of life are involved in this work. Smugglers are not exempt. This business is destroying the social balance of the country. BGB has dedicated its life to stop these. Naik Subedar Abdul Mannan, the team leader of 11 BGB border guards, sacrificed his life while performing his duties at Vallukhaiya on the border on October 18. He said at one point, ‘In the last few months, border guards seized 1200 cattle which is only 10 percent of trafficking. The rest have been smuggled. But the government wants to increase animal resources.’ Chairman of the meeting 11 BGB captain Lt. Col. Md. Rezaul Karim said, ‘BGB is working to stop smuggling. Gaza is growing opium in the mountains. All this must be stopped.’ Special guest Upazila Nirbahi Officer Romen Sharma said, ‘If you keep stolen goods inside the house or elsewhere, there is a provision to confiscate them.’ 34 BGB Captain Lt Col Saiful Islam, Ramu Upazila Chairman Sohel Sarwar Kajal, Bandarban Narcotics Control Directorate Deputy Director Ruhul Amin, Naikxyongchari Haji MA Kalam Government Degree College Principal Am Rafiqul Islam, Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Dochhari Union Parishad Chairman Md Imran, Mainuddin Khaled, founder president of Naikshyongchari Press Club, Mujibul Rahman Babul, chairman of Garzonia also spoke in the meeting.
