Saching Prue Jerry, the Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, has remarked that drugs are linked to various crimes in Cox’s Bazar. He emphasized the importance of forming neighborhood-based resistance committees that involve local residents alongside law enforcement agencies to control the drug menace. The Minister made these remarks during a meeting convened to discuss the law and order situation and drug control in Cox’s Bazar. The meeting addressed measures to curb drug trafficking, drug abuse, and related criminal activities in the district.

Saching Prue Jerry stated that various types of crimes are on the rise in Cox’s Bazar due to drug abuse. He noted that local people must step forward alongside the administration to help control the drug problem. He stressed the need to strengthen social resistance against drugs by establishing neighborhood-based resistance committees. Discussions at the meeting also covered drug trafficking in the border and coastal areas of Cox’s Bazar.

Strategies to increase surveillance along trafficking routes and intensify operations by law enforcement agencies were also discussed. During the meeting, limitations regarding manpower and vehicles faced by law enforcement agencies were highlighted. The necessity of overcoming these constraints to make anti-drug operations and surveillance more effective was underscored.

Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdul Mannan, the meeting was addressed by Member of Parliament Lutfur Rahman Kajol, Member of Parliament (Reserved Seat) Advocate Shamim Ara Swapna, and Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman, alongside other senior officials from law enforcement and the administration.

Officials from various government departments and law enforcement agencies, public representatives, and other stakeholders were present at the event. Relevant officials briefed the Minister on the overall law and order situation in Cox’s Bazar, anti-drug operations, and the various measures taken to prevent drug trafficking.

Emphasis was placed on involving public representatives, social organizations, and the general public alongside law enforcement agencies in controlling the drug problem. Discussions also focused on raising awareness about the dangers of drugs at the local level and strengthening legal action against drug traffickers.
