Police have rescued a 17-year-old girl—whose abduction had been reported—within 24 hours of the incident in Madan Upazila of the district. According to the police, the girl had voluntarily left with the accused, Shihab Hossain, due to a long-standing romantic relationship. Allegations of abduction and assault involving the girl arose around 12:00 PM last Tuesday (September 15) near the Jahangirpur Center intersection in Madan Municipality.

That same night, the girl’s brother filed a case at Madan Police Station regarding the incident. Following the filing of the case, the police launched an operation to rescue the girl. Police stated that the girl and her boyfriend, Shihab Hossain, were found and rescued from the Netrakona District Bus Terminal around 11:00 PM on Wednesday (September 16).

Upon questioning the plaintiff and others involved, the police learned that the girl and the prime accused, Md. Shihab (24), are cousins. About two years ago, both their families used to live in Chattogram. Later, although the girl’s parents moved from Chattogram to Madan, she remained at her aunt’s house—which was Shihab’s home. During her stay there, a romantic relationship developed between Shihab and the girl.

Discussions regarding their marriage had even taken place between the families about two years ago. However, the marriage did not ultimately materialize because the girl’s family did not consent. According to police information, on the day of the incident, Shihab traveled from Chattogram to Madan and took the girl away with him. Subsequently, her family filed an abduction case at the police station.

Salauddin Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madan Police Station, said, “We rescued the victim within 24 hours of the abduction incident. During questioning, she revealed that she had a long-standing romantic relationship with Shihab Hossain and had left with him of her own volition. The victim is currently in police custody.”
