In a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the appointed ACC Receiver has taken over the overall maintenance and management of the CROC/blocked ‘Swarna Tower’ building in Gopalganj as per the court order. On Wednesday (16 September) at 10 am, the District Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted the taking charge of the building located in Char Sonakur area of Ward No. 13 of Gopalganj Municipality. Earlier this information was informed in a notice dated 14th September 2026 of ACC Gopalganj district office.

In the letter, the concerned persons are requested to attend the spot at the appointed time and take over the duties of the receiver and provide full cooperation in the proceedings. The appointed receivers are Assistant Director Abdul Latif Howlader and Deputy Assistant Director Afsar Uddin of the Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC. According to the ACC documents, the owner of the ‘Swarna Tower’ building located in the Char Sonakur area of Gopalganj Bangabandhu Road is Sheikh Md Ikram (Halim), a Filipino expatriate son of Haji Abdus Salam of the Christian neighborhood of the district city.

Sheikh Mohammad Ikram (Haleem) is the brother-in-law of APS-2 Gazi Hafizur Rahman Likur of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It is known that the matter came to the notice of the court in view of the case number 43 of the Anti-Corruption Commission, District Office, Dhaka-01, dated 13 January 2025. Later, Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court, Dhaka passed separate orders in this case on 26 June and 24 August 2025. ACC Gopalganj said that in view of the order of the court, the property was seized/blocked and a receiver was appointed. The real property includes 30 units of the entire building, 1 lift, several CCTV cameras and various types of furniture required.

Deputy Assistant Director of Gopalganj District ACC Afsar Uddin told the media that we are transferring the overall maintenance and management responsibility of ‘Swarna Tower’ to the receiver as per the court’s instructions. ACC is now taking over the physical maintenance and management of the building after the property has been seized/blocked and a receiver has been appointed. Henceforth the building will be managed under the supervision of the receiver as per the court order.

On receiving the news, a group of media workers went to the ground on Wednesday morning and saw Gopalganj District Administration Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (NDC) A, K, M, Faizul Bari, ACC Gopalganj District Office Assistant Director Abdul Latif Howladar and Deputy Assistant Director Afsar Uddin, Police Inspector Sirajul Islam and other officials and employees of the administration obeying the court order. Meanwhile, the elder brother of the building owner, Abul Kalam Azad, expressed his anger and told the media that on Tuesday (September 15), the court’s verdict was executed a day after receiving the ACC notice.

He also said that we two brothers have been living in the Philippines with our families for almost three years. We are remittance warriors. We built this building with our hard earned money and loan from Dutch Bangla Bank. No one has any illegal money here. We have submitted necessary documents to ACC several times before but still ACC filed a case and appointed a receiver in the building as per court order. We have extended full cooperation to them as directed by the court. We hope that the learned judicial court will do justice to us by quickly returning our building through a fair investigation.
