BGB members were attacked by organized smugglers while conducting an operation to prevent smuggling in the Naikhongchari border area of Bandarban. Five members including Lance Naik were injured in this. Two Burmese stolen cows worth four lakh taka were also recovered from the scene.

The incident took place at 8:45 am on Monday (March 9, 2026) at a place called Reikkashia in the Fultali area of Naikhongchari Sadar Union. According to the case report, Havildar Md. Zahirul Islam of Naikhongchari Battalion (11 BGB) along with BGB members conducted an operation to prevent smuggling in the border area.

At that time, a group of smugglers tried to smuggle Burmese cattle by evading customs and taxes. When BGB members stopped them, they attacked in a coordinated manner, obstructing government work and beating up BGB members. Lance Naik Md. Raju Ahmed’s left wrist was broken in the attack. In addition, Sepoys Anik De, Hridoy Sheikh, Shahriar and Sharif Mia were also injured.

During the operation, one gray and one white foreign-colored cattle were recovered from the scene. Each is estimated to be worth two lakh taka, for a total of four lakh taka.

A case has been filed in this incident, naming 17 people including Ismail Hossain, Sohel Rana, Nayan Ahmed, Mizanur Rahman, Shahabuddin, Badiuzzaman, Ebadullah, Rubel, Yusuf, Iqbal, Ali Akbar, Mehedi, Afsar, Shoaib, Jasim Mia alias Jasim Member, Ishaq and Lalu, and naming 15-16 more as unknown accused.

The case filed at Naikshongchhari Police Station has been registered under Sections 25B/25D of the Special Powers Act, 1974 and Sections 143/332/333/353/186/307 of the Penal Code, 1860. The investigation of the case has been given to SI (Unarmed) of the police station A. Haque Abbasi. Law enforcement agencies said that the operation to arrest those involved in the attack is continuing.
