Bangladeshi travel content creator Salahuddin Sumon and fellow traveler Nilay Kumar Biswas have recently explored parts of the Amazon rainforest during an expedition in Brazil. The journey began from the city of Manaus and was organized by the expedition agency Amazon Gero Tours. From there, the team traveled along the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões rivers and witnessed the well-known natural phenomenon called the “Meeting of the Waters,” where the dark waters of the Rio Negro flow alongside the lighter-colored Rio Solimões without immediately mixing.
The expedition later continued deeper into the rainforest as the travelers crossed the Mamory River and entered dense jungle areas. During their trek, Sumon and Nilay observed a variety of rare plants and wildlife that are unique to the Amazon ecosystem. They also learned about several medicinal plants and basic survival techniques used in the rainforest.
The journey was guided by experienced jungle guides Mr Gero and Mr Marco, both of whom have been leading expeditions in the Amazon for decades. During the trip, the travelers also caught piranha—one of the most iconic fish species in the Amazon basin—which is commonly found in the region’s waterways. They also spotted a number of birds, reptiles and river dolphins while navigating through the forest and rivers. In addition, the travelers interacted with local residents and experienced traditional performances presented by indigenous communities. Speaking about the experience, Sumon said exploring the Amazon had long been a personal dream.
“I always wanted to explore the Amazon and share its stories with Bengali-speaking audiences around the world. There is great curiosity about the Amazon among Bengali viewers, but very little content exists in our language,” he said. Nilay Kumar Biswas said the Amazon had fascinated him since childhood. “I watched many documentaries about the Amazon and read stories about its wildlife and forests. Being able to experience it in real life is something very special,” he said. According to Gero, owner of Amazon Gero Tours, hosting the visitors was a memorable experience. “It is always a pleasure to guide travelers who are interested in discovering the natural beauty of the Amazon rainforest,” he said. The Amazon expedition forms part of Sumon’s broader South America and Antarctica journey, which is sponsored by Turkish Airlines and Dot Internet in association with Amazon Gero Tours.
