A human chain and protest rally was held in Sreepur, Gazipur, demanding an end to the torture of journalists and the withdrawal of the false case filed against journalist Sujan Mondal. Local journalists, civil society representatives and people from different walks of life participated in the human chain and protest rally organized at the intersection of Sreepur Police Station at 12 noon on Monday (March 9). The speakers alleged that a person named Joynal, known as a land grabber and fraudster, is harassing Sujan Mondal, a journalist of the Dainik Amar Praner Bangladesh newspaper, by filing a false case No. 22 at the Sreepur Model Police Station. It is the responsibility of the state to ensure media freedom and provide security to journalists. Attempting to silence journalists through false and purposeful cases will pose a threat to democracy and independent journalism. They strongly demanded that the relevant authorities immediately withdraw the false case filed against journalist Sujan Mondal and free him from all forms of harassment.
