Ahead of the upcoming elections, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered two foreign-made pistols, four magazines, and three rounds of live ammunition from the Masudpur border area in Chapainawabganj. The firearms were recovered during a special operation conducted at around 5:30 am on Tuesday in the Thutapara area of Masudpur border under Shibganj upazila.
The information was disclosed at a press briefing held at noon at the headquarters of Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB), where Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman briefed the media.
During the press briefing, the Battalion Commander stated that based on intelligence suggesting that miscreants might attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition into Bangladesh through illegal routes to carry out large-scale sabotage ahead of the upcoming election, BGB intensified its operations. As a result, two foreign pistols, four magazines, and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
He further added that recently 53 BGB seized 9.3 kilograms of explosives along with six foreign pistols, thirteen magazines, and twenty-nine rounds of ammunition, arresting one suspect in connection with the recovery.
