National Library Day 2026 was celebrated with the theme ‘Freedom of Knowledge is the Foundation of the Future’.

On this occasion, a discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony for various competitions was organized by the District Government Public Library. The meeting was held at 11 am on Thursday (February 5) in the reading room of the District Government Public Library.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rafiquzzaman was present as the chief guest at the function presided over by Purnima Dalu, Librarian of the District Government Public Library.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sajal Kumar Sarkar spoke as the special guest.

In the discussion meeting moderated by Paheli Dey, Recitation Instructor of Shishu Academy, the speakers said that the role of libraries in building a knowledge-based and enlightened society is immense.

Such an arrangement to make the new generation book-oriented is commendable. Among others, the meeting was addressed by Professor Afzalur Rahman, former Head of Department (Bangla), Netrokona Government College.

Poet Tanvir Jahan Chowdhury, General Secretary, Sahitya Samaj, Ramendra Kumar Sarkar, Co-Librarian, District Government Public Library, Probal Saha, Human Rights and Development Activist, Khairul Islam, District Coordinator, BRAC.

Journalist Hafiz Ullah Chowdhury Alim, Publicity and Publication Secretary of Netrokona District Press Club, and many others were present at the event.

After the discussion, the guests presented prizes to the winners of the drawing and book reading competition organized on the occasion of National Library Day.

Local dignitaries, teachers and students of various educational institutions were also present at the event.
