In Chattogram A huge Gas ship was saved by the infinite bravery of Captain Asif
“Ship ‘Gas Harmony’ saved from terrible accident due to the infinite courage of Captain Asif of CPA” Port Secretary Omar Farooq confirmed the matter in a press release.
This written press release informed that on January 20, 2026, at approximately Morning 10 past half an emergency situation arose on the LPG gas-carrying ship ‘Gas Harmony’ (159.9 meters) while berthing at the United Tank Terminal Jetty of Karnaphuli Channel. The ship was carrying 515 metric tons of propane and 4,570 metric tons of butane gas when a fatal mechanical failure occurred.
As a result, the ship lost control and hit the Kafco Ammonia Jetty, which was a terrible situation. At that time, the skilled and experienced Assistant Harbor Master of the Naval Department of the Chittagong Port Authority, Captain Asif Ahmed, who was on duty on the ship at that time, made an instant decision with intelligence, strong morale and infinite courage and risked his life. Maya ignored the incident and used the ship’s anchor and tugboat in time to mitigate the accident.
As a result of this very efficient and timely action, the ship’s speed decreased and the direction changed, and finally the ship was able to stop at a distance of approximately 1.2 meters from the jetty structure. Otherwise, a terrible accident could have occurred, including loss of life and property, and extensive damage to the jetty and channel. It is worth noting that as soon as the news was received, senior officials of Chittagong Port monitored the situation through VTMS and gave the above instructions.
With the fastest possible initial steps and exemplary team efforts, it was finally possible to pass without any major accident.
For this courageous role of Captain Asif, the captain of the ship concerned has awarded him a certificate of appreciation. This has greatly brightened the image of the port and the country.
