A jatka worth around 4 lakh taka has been seized by the Bangladesh Coast Guard in Ramgati, Lakshmipur. The operation was conducted late on Thursday night based on a secret tip-off.

A truck was searched in the Tankir Ghat area of ​​the upazila and a huge quantity of banned jatka was seized. Coast Guard sources said that the truck, driver and helper were detained, but they were later released along with the legal fish and the truck on bail.

The seized jatka was distributed to local madrasas, orphanages and the helpless poor on Friday morning in the presence of senior upazila fisheries officers and employees.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard Petty Officer Md. Riyad Hossain said that such operations will continue to prevent the killing of jatka.
