Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an attempt to smuggle yaba tablets from Myanmar through the Teknaf border, seizing approximately 20 thousand pieces during a special operation.
According to BGB sources, acting on confidential intelligence, a special operation was conducted in the early hours of January 12, 2026, within the area of responsibility of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB). During the operation, BGB personnel noticed suspicious movement in the Keju Bagan area adjacent to the Naf River in Teknaf upazila and immediately launched a search operation.
Sensing the presence of BGB, the drug traffickers managed to flee the scene. Subsequently, a search of the area led to the recovery of a large consignment of yaba tablets from an abandoned bag.
Commander of Teknaf Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan, SPP, AFWC, PSC, stated that BGB remains on maximum alert to prevent drug smuggling along the border areas. He further said, “Such operations by BGB will continue to ensure border security and eradicate drug trafficking.”
BGB sources also confirmed that preparations are underway to hand over the seized yaba tablets to Teknaf Model Police Station following completion of the necessary legal procedures.
