Separate fires in Sreepur gut businesses and homes, causing damage worth Tk 70 lakh

Three businesses and nine homes have been gutted in separate fires in Sreepur, Gazipur. The fires occurred in Channapara of Sreepur Municipality and Joynatoli village of Maona Union.

The businessmen and homeowners suffered a loss of about Tk 70 lakh. On receiving information, Sreepur Fire Service personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
The fire broke out at the shop and home of Abdus Salam in Joynatoli (Uttarpara) village of Maona Union of the upazila at around 2:30 am on Sunday (December 21) and at the home of businessman Sahab Uddin in Channapara area of ​​Sreepur Municipality at around 5 am on Monday (December 22).
Sahab Uddin, a raw material trader at Maona Crossroads in Channapara area, said that a fire suddenly broke out in a room of a rented house in the early morning. The fire immediately spread to 7 other nearby houses.

Upon receiving the news, two units of the Sripur Fire Service reached the spot and tried for an hour to bring the fire under control. The valuables in those houses were immediately burnt to ashes.
The fire caused a loss of about 3 million taka to 8 families. Each of the 8 affected families works in different local garment factories.

Upon receiving the news, BNP National Executive Committee’s Joint Health Affairs Secretary and BNP nominated candidate for Gazipur-3 (part of Sripur-Sadar) constituency, Professor Dr. SM Rafiqul Islam Bachchu, visited the scene.

He spoke to the tenants affected by the fire and provided them with cash assistance to weather the cold. Later, he assured more cooperation in stages. At that time, Sreepur Municipality BNP member secretary Billal Hossain Bepari and Gazipur District Krishak Dal convener SM Abul Kalam Azad along with party leaders and activists from various levels were present.

On the other hand, on Sunday (December 21) at around 2:30 am, a fire broke out in the house and three shops of Abdus Salam in Joynatoli (Uttarpara) village of Maona Union of the upazila. Abdus Salam said that the fire started from the cotton godown. Later, the fire quickly spread to the shops and houses nearby. An auto-rickshaw, furniture in the house, all the goods in the grocery store and the cotton godown were burnt to ashes in the fire. He suffered a loss of about 4 million taka.

Sreepur Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Nurul Karim said that eight houses belonging to Sahab Uddin in Channapara area and the house and three shops belonging to Abdus Salam in Joynatoli (Uttarpara) village of Maona Union were burnt down.

Upon receiving the information, workers from two units of the Fire Service in Channapara area tried for an hour to bring the fire under control. He could not say how the fire started or the extent of the damage.
