The 24-kilometer Municipal Marathon Competition-25 was held in Rangamati on Saturday (December 06). 300 male and female competitors participated in the competition organized by Rangamati Municipality. The competitors started the race at 8 am on Saturday from the premises of Bangladesh-Sweden Polytechnic Institute under Kaptai Upazila of the district and ended at the premises of Rangamati Municipality. Each competitor had to cover a distance of 24 kilometers.
Earlier, the marathon competition was officially inaugurated by releasing balloons, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department and Administrator of the Municipal Assembly Md. Mobarak Hossain. Kaptai Upazila Executive Officer Md. Ruhul Amin, former Chairman of Kaptai Upazila Parishad and BNP leader Dildar Hossain and other dignitaries were present at the time. On the same day, the winners and participants of the municipal marathon race held in the afternoon, which was attended by 300 men and women, reached the Rangamati Municipality premises, and the guests distributed prizes among them. On behalf of the Rangamati Municipality, the first winner in the male and female categories was awarded 10 thousand taka, the second winner was awarded 8 thousand taka and the third winner was awarded 6 thousand taka. In the over 40s race, the first winner was awarded 5 thousand taka, the second winner was awarded 4 thousand taka and the third winner was awarded 3 thousand taka. In addition, medals were given to each participant. The prize distribution ceremony of the Rangamati Municipal Marathon-25 was attended by Zone Commander Lt. Col. Ekramur Rahat, Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdur Rakib, Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuen Khisa, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department and Municipal Administrator Md. Mobarak Hossain was present and presented the prizes and cash to the winners.
