Businessman beaten to death for interest money in Noakhali, arrest-1
RAB-11 has arrested an accused named in the complaint in the case of beating to death businessman Abdur Rahim for not paying interest in Sonaimuri, Noakhali. The arrested Md. Ismail Hossain alias Didar (40) is the son of the deceased Mukhlesur Rahman of Bhuiyan Bari of Narayanbhatra village of the upazila. On Sunday (November 30), RAB-11, CPC-3, Noakhali Company Commander (Acting) Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu confirmed the matter at around 6:15 pm. Earlier, he was arrested in a drive in Nayahat area of Sonapur union of the upazila around 1:45 pm on the same day.
The deceased Abdur Rahim (57) is the son of the deceased Mohammad Ulya of Matlabpur village of Parbatinagar union of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. He was the owner of Mithila Bakery in Amishapara Bazar, Sonaimuri. RAB-11 said that Abdur Rahim has been running a business called Mitali Bakery in Amishapara Bazar of the upazila for the past 10-12 years. The victim had a dispute with the accused No. 1 in the complaint over money transactions. Last Wednesday at around 10 am, the accused No. 1 and his associates took him out of the victim’s bakery in Amishapara Bazar and beat him indiscriminately with iron rods and hammers. Later, the accused took him to different places and beat him up step by step until 11:30 am. At one stage, the victim was locked inside a cotton shop called Nur Mohammad Bedding Store and released after getting a signature on a white stamp. RAB-11 further said that when the victim reached Dighirjan Mosque with serious injuries and fell unconscious, local people kept him on the balcony of the mosque. Later, he was given primary treatment at Chatkhil Central Hospital. Later, he was taken to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for advanced treatment. He died there at around 2:15 am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment. In this incident, the victim’s wife filed a murder case with Sonaimuri Police Station, naming 12 people and accusing 10/15 of them as unknown persons. RAB-11, CPC-3, Noakhali Company Commander (Acting) Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu further said that based on secret information, a team of RAB-11 arrested Didar, accused number 8 in the complaint of the murder case of businessman Abdur Rahim.
The arrested accused confessed to being involved in the incident. The accused has been handed over to Sonaimuri Police Station for legal action.
