Joypurhat District Bar Association elections held on Saturday, Momen Fakir from the Jamaat-backed panel and Shahidul Islam from the BNP-backed panel were elected President and General Secretary respectively. Out of a total of 11 posts, except for the President, the remaining 10 posts were elected from the BNP-backed panel. It is mentionable that the Jamaat-backed panel contested a total of 6 posts.
Abdul Momen Fakir from the Jamaat-backed panel was elected President by getting 93 votes. His nearest rival, from BNP-backed ATM Mizanur Rahman, received 91 votes. Khairul Ahsan Sakhidar Jewel was elected Vice-President by getting 128 votes, his nearest rival Ayub Ali received 64 votes. Shahidul Islam received 100 votes, and his nearest rival Shamsul Islam received 29 votes for the general secretary post. He was elected as Joint General Secretary K M Abu Sufian Polash with 143 votes, while his nearest rival Alamgir Kabir received 51 votes. Golam Moudud Shahriar was elected as Finance Secretary with 105 votes, while his nearest rival Nasimus Saqlain Titu received 83 votes. Hasanuzzaman Nannu was elected as Hospitality Secretary with 106 votes, while his nearest rival Mamunur Rashid got 89 votes. In addition, those elected unopposed were Nur-e Alam Siddiqui as Publicity and Publication Secretary, Abdul Mumin Hamidul as Audit Secretary, and Firoz Hossain, Suheli Parveen and Golam Maula as executive members. Senior legislators praised the election being held in a festive and democratic atmosphere. Abdur Rahman Sarkar served as the chief election commissioner, and Nur Nabi Mallik and Ashraf Ali were the election commissioners.
