Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Mohd Shamim, Founding Director of BAU ITVET

Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Mohd Shamim, School of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bangladesh Open University (BAU), has been appointed as the Founding Director of the newly established Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET) in addition to his own duties. He assumed the responsibility of the director of the institute on Monday, November 24, 2025. He is currently also serving as the treasurer of BAU. After assuming the responsibility, Professor Shamim said that a large number of educated youth in the country are unemployed due to skill shortages, which clarifies the gap between the existing education system and the real needs of the industry.
In this situation, expanding technical and vocational education is now a national priority. BAU ITVET will play an important role in providing job-oriented, skill-based training in line with the national skill development policy and the government’s TVET action plan. He further said that the main objective of ITVET-Gi is to equip the youth with industry-demanding skills, create effective linkages from education to employment, and ensure equal training opportunities for all classes of students, including marginalized groups. Through this, skilled human resources of international standards will be created, which will further strengthen the country’s employment and overall economy.
Professor Shamim expressed his gratitude to the university authorities for entrusting him with the responsibility of this newly established important institution. The concerned expressed their hope that through his integrity, expertise, and experience, he will establish ITVET as a leading institution in skill development and employment-oriented education in the country.
