“Service recipients must be treated well” — Newly appointed DC Chattogram

A coordination meeting titled “Half-yearly progress review and to-do list” of village court activities was held at the Chittagong Teachers Training Institute (PTI) conference room at 10 am today, Saturday, under the initiative of the Bangladesh Village Court Activation (Phase 3) Project implemented with the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the European Union and UNDP Bangladesh, and organized by the District Administration, Chittagong. Deputy Director, Local Government, Chittagong Md. Sharif Uddin presided over the meeting. Chittagong DC & DM Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah was present as the chief guest.

In his speech as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner said,
“In order to gain the trust of the common people, it is necessary to ensure that service seekers coming to the Union Parishad are treated well and receive the necessary services. The officials should be more attentive, humane and service-oriented.”

He further said,
“If small disputes are not resolved at the local level, people have to visit different offices and courts repeatedly. To alleviate this hardship, judicial services should be properly implemented at the local level.”
DC instructed all concerned to maintain sincerity, morality, humanity and a positive attitude in providing services.

Farhana Idris, Assistant Director of IPSA, the implementing partner of the Bangladesh Village Court Activation (Phase 3) Project, delivered the welcome speech at the meeting. Faridul Alam, Deputy Director, Department of Social Services, Chittagong, spoke as a special guest.

In his speech, Deputy Director, Local Government Md. Sharif Uddin said that the Union Parishad is the main institution for implementing government policies at the field level. It is necessary to further improve the service delivery environment so that the people can easily get government services through the Parishad. He also called for ensuring proper implementation of the legal powers given to the chairmen in resolving minor crimes and disputes.

Meeting was attended by the District Manager of the project, Sajedul Anwar Bhuiyan, who presented the 10-month progress report of 191 unions in Chittagong district from January to October 2025.

Also present were the Upazila Executive Officers of 15 upazilas of Chittagong, administrative officers of 191 unions, and the Upazila Coordinators of the project.
