Human chain demanding migration and social security in climate change in Koyra

A human chain demanding sustainable solutions against the adverse effects of climate change, damage, migration and social insecurity was held in Koyra. it was held on Wednesday (November 19) 11am.Thana Road in front of the Upazila Parishad.
organized by Caritas’ DRR-CCA project. Climate-vulnerable people, public representatives, teachers, social workers and journalists from different unions of the upazila participated in the human chain.

The speakers at the human chain said that coastal people are facing serious losses in their livelihoods year after year due to cyclones, tidal waves, river erosion, salinity and floods. Poverty is deepening due to extensive damage to agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry and homesteads. However, adequate social protection and assistance for the affected people is still not assured.

The speakers also said that government and private initiatives must be urgently increased to protect the livelihoods of coastal people. They called for the voices of coastal people to be reflected from the local level to national policymaking.

The program highlighted the demands of coastal people for building climate-resilient infrastructure, increasing social protection programs, creating employment opportunities, ensuring sustainable safe water systems, and expanding rapid rehabilitation and emergency assistance to disaster-affected families.
